Like it or not, the 1st Amendment isn’t there to protect people’s speech that you agree with or is acceptable, it’s there to protect people’s speech that is at times abhorrent and hateful. The limits are only on speech intended to cause alarm (screaming fire in a theater), speech to incite violence, and speech that are considered fighting words, and threats. Pretty much everything else is free speech with few exceptions.

Even using foul language directed at a police officer is protected. As the U.S. Supreme Court has held:

“The freedom of individuals verbally to oppose or challenge police action without thereby risking arrest is one of the principal characteristics by which we distinguish a free nation from a police state." City of Houston v. Hill, 482 U.S. 451, 462 (1987)).

This includes speech that is profane, rude, insulting, or verbally abusive.

Some day you will learn precedent is great in long term but in my city a guy was taken down and arrested just for saying something to the cops in the sidewalk last year. Also in my city what the guy did is actually assault but they really only enforce it if a guy yells at a girl here

Well, let's unpack this one piece by piece.

A man was driving too fast and had an accident.

The police were called, and one showed up.

The officer did his job in collecting evidence and insurance info.

When the asshat started cussing out the Black Gentleman, the cop stayed out of it.

Which was the correct thing to do, as hurling racist names isn't a crime.

If you want to fault the cop for not getting involved in a public disturbance, you can.

But consider this: in 2020-2022, people were trying to disband the police and called them racist.

So, I can't blame the cop for not getting involved.

Kudos to the school staff for de-escalating the situation.

But that's just my opinion.

Overall I agree with you but this happening on the corner of a school while kids are going to school and witnessing this was a big problem. Even the guys wife was telling him to stop. And just so you know in our state technically Hurling racist insults does fall under assault if the person is scared. Which this Guy was.

Also your argument of disbanding doesn’t make sense it sounds like since they were called Racist it’s ok that they are now?

That's not what I'm saying. Had I been there, I would have told the asshat to shut the hell up, but I also understand why the cop didn't.

Coincidentally, if he were in my city and state, his name-calling would have gotten his ass beat by the very black people he was cussing.

And still, the cop would have sat there.
