If you’ve been following us for more than five minutes, you know we can’t just do things normally.
So when TikTok announced a new #USHistory educational contest, we thought:
“Let’s turn 1800s whale oil economics into a folk comedy sea shanty with animated whales and a sailor.”
Naturally.
📜 About the Contest
TikTok’s latest #TikTokLearningCampaign is all about educational content—specifically around U.S. History. While it’s technically not a music contest, creativity and originality are major judging criteria.
To qualify, every video has to:
✅ Be educational and fact-based
✅ Include the hashtags #TikTokLearningCampaign and #USHistory
✅ Be original content (no promos or personal links)
✅ Earn 20,000+ views to even be considered for judging
Judging is based on:
20% Originality
20% Historical Accuracy
20% Storytelling
20% Content Quality
20% Audience Interaction (comments, saves, shares)
Yeah. It’s real. And we went all in.
🎧 Our Entry: “Who Let the Whales Out?”
We created a music video that fuses:
🎵 Comedy folk music
🐋 Historical facts about the U.S. whaling economy
🎨 Disney-Pixar-style animation
🧔🏻♂️ Our red-bearded Irish-German sailor alter ego
📚 Subtle (and not-so-subtle) education wrapped in rhythm
It’s funny. It’s strange. It’s historically accurate.
And yes, it slaps.

🎯 Why a Sea Shanty?
Because let’s be honest:
History class skipped over the fact that we lit cities using whale oil.
Seriously — that was a major U.S. industry in the 1800s, and no one talks about it.
By mixing music and humor, we make that information stick.
We’re here to prove that learning doesn’t have to be boring — it can be musical, animated, and just a little absurd.
📈 Help Us Hit 20,000 Views Before August 6th!
That’s the entry threshold for the judges to even look at our video.
Here’s how you can help:
✅ Watch the video (especially all the way through)
💬 Comment — we pinned a fun one to get it started
🔁 Share with a friend who loves music, history, or whales
🎭 Duet or stitch it if you want to bring your own spin
We’re tracking everything until the contest ends on August 6, 2025 at 11:59 PM PT.
🐋Our goal is simple:
Make education fun, weird, and memorable.
If that means dressing like a 19th-century sailor and singing about economic infrastructure built on whale fat… so be it.
Thanks for reading — and helping us turn forgotten history into something worth sharing.
