That 1 Guy, with his magical pipe an unbelievable custom-made instrument, is truly a sight to behold. The drum and bass sound he delivers is so insane that it can transport you to another world. I could close my eyes and imagine myself at night, sitting under the sherwood trees at Electric Forest after a long and exhausting day, and just letting the rhythm and bass take over.
His custom bass sounds reminds me of the Hu Band and their unique bass instruments. It's like he's a modern-day musical wizard, born in a time of technological advancements. His stage presence and style make me feel like he and Robert Delong are two parts of a whole, born in different eras of humanity's technological boom.
The Magic Pipe, a monster of metal, strings, and electronics, allows him to create music and magic in ways that very few solo musicians can. It's no wonder he has performed at prestigious festivals like Wakarusa, Electric Forest, Big Day Out, All Good, Bella, High Sierra, Summer Meltdown, Montreal Jazz Festival, and many more. He even won the "Tap Water Award" for best musical act at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
His music is a beautiful blend of drum, bass, electronic, and jazz. And let's not forget his classic wolf howl between songs, which adds an extra touch of uniqueness to his performances. “Awoooo”
When That 1 Guy took the stage, dressed all in orange and sporting his long, wizard-like beard, someone in the audience couldn't help but comment, "You look like a wizard at a correctional facility." I can’t help but wonder if the recent local argument over the new prison structure in the area influences comments like this.
But regardless of his appearance, this guy knows how to command an audience. I've never seen a show at Remedy 611 where the crowd was so captivated. Even during my bathroom break, the restroom was buzzing with patrons talking about how magical his music is. Some even reminisced about seeing him twenty years ago at the Ten Thousand Lakes Festival.
Slipping in his own rendition of Tom Sawyer by Rush near the end made me wish my pops hit this show with me.
That 1 Guy is a true musical magician. So if you ever have the chance to witness his performance, don't miss out. Who knows, maybe his music will transport you to a whole new dimension of joy and wonder.
