Musk calls out ADL for holding ad revenue hostage to demand censorship of users on ๐
Elon is suggesting he will sue the Anti Defamation League for defamation
To clear our platformโs name on the matter of anti-Semitism, it looks like we have no choice but to file a defamation lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League โฆ oh the irony!
-Elon Musk
Musk is threatening the ADL with a defamation lawsuit, and accusing them of destroying half of their revenue by contacting advertisers and lying about anti-semitism on ๐. This results in advertisers pausing ads over fears of being associated with this content.
The ADL is also accused of then backing ๐ into a corner by holding ad revenue over their head until they comply with censorship demands. Elon suggested once they comply with such demands, the ADL then contacts the advertisers to give them โthe green lightโ to lift the pause on ads.
He suggested this has been the relationship between the ADL and ๐ for years, and threatened to release communications between them to highlight all the demands for censorship. This could potentially open them up to additional lawsuits if they are found to have defamed anyone they targeted.
Musk thinks the ADL could be on the hook for 22 billion, but also said that the damage theyโve done would be at minimum 4 billion in revenue.

Elon Musk:
Interesting.
In our case, they would potentially be on the hook for destroying half the value of the company, so roughly $22 billion.
Based on what we've heard from advertisers, ADL seems to be responsible for most of our revenue loss.
Giving them maximum benefit of the doubt, I don't see any scenario where they're responsible for less than 10% of the value destruction, so~$4 billion.
Document discovery of all communications between The ADL and advertisers will tell the full story.
Advertisers avoid controversy, so all that is needed for ADL to crush our US & European ad revenue is to make unfounded accusations.
They have much less power in Asia, so our ad revenue there is still strong.
This "controversy" causes advertisers to "pause", but that pause is permanent until ADL gives the green light, which they will not do without us agreeing to secretly suspend or shadowban any account they don't like.
That is the relationship they've had with ๐/Twitter for many years. Presumably, they have that with all western search or social media orgs.
