On the fifth night of the Monsters Ball Tour, the eclectic mix of artists brought a musical spectacle to The Loony Bin, a cozy venue nestled upstairs in Julianne's Dance Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. This time the tour's journey began with a scenic 4-hour drive, punctuated by a delightful pit stop at Minnesota's Largest Candy Store where a trove of tasty treats was secured for the road.
Arriving at the venue, the initial layout was puzzling. However, the charm of The Loony Bin soon unfolded. Though modest in size, the meticulous planning was evident. The owner had crafted a space, transforming a dance studio into a concert haven. A dedicated merch room showcased an array of merchandise, illuminated under bright lights, while a counter offered refreshments to the attendees.
The main space was reserved for the stage and audience, skillfully arranged to ensure an immersive experience. Even a storage corner was cleverly masked with grid wall panels, ensuring an uninterrupted visual feast.
The night commenced with a spirited performance by TipZ, who seamlessly transitioned into a collaborative piece with Mereness. The camaraderie was palpable as Mereness took center stage next for his set, a familiar face with whom we've shared several shows. His efforts in setting up the venue, after our initial choice fell through, did not go unnoticed.
The atmosphere turned up as our friends, Open Minded, took the stage, unveiling a plethora of new songs. The crowd was treated to a surprise as Professor Fresh made a guest appearance for one of the songs, amplifying the energy in the room.
The tour supports, Worldwide Chaos and the Enlightened Ones, maintained the momentum with performances that were nothing short of stellar. Their consistent energy and zest were in perfect harmony with the vibe of the tour.
Culminating the night were the headliners Louie Fontana and Gorilla Pimp, whose performances brought an exuberant end to the show. What set this night apart was the familiarity; a majority of the artists were well-acquainted, and the air buzzed with the collective singing of songs known and loved.
The Loony Bin, with its quaint charm, proved to be the perfect backdrop for a night where camaraderie and music intertwined flawlessly. The Monsters Ball Tour's fifth night in St. Paul was not just another concert but a testament to the unity and shared passion that can turn even the most unconventional spaces into a symphony of unforgettable moments.
