Electric Callboy: A Night to Remember at the Fillmore, Minneapolis
4000 Miles Between
The legendary Fillmore in Minneapolis bore witness to a night of electrifying performances, reminiscent of the very spirit of metal. Our journey to this experience began with a 4-hour drive and the anticipation only escalated with every passing mile. Our troupe of eight was teeming with excitement as we eagerly awaited a night with the German sensation, Electric Callboy.
Upon our arrival, our first pitstop was the merchandise booth. We proudly claimed our VIP merchandise, which included a shirt, an LED bracelet synced to the pulsing beats of the music, and a poster inked with the autographs of Electric Callboy members. Ben, one of our crew and a staple to my concert trips, managed to snag a unique memento—an autographed drumhead.
The evening set into motion with the all-girl metal band from Michigan, Conquer/Divide. Their energy and passion for their craft filled the hall, setting the tone for the rest of the night. Following their blazing trail was Solence, the Swedish Metal Boy Band, further intensifying the energy in the room.
However, a visual survey around the venue revealed the depth of commitment the fans had for Electric Callboy. There was an amusing sea of mullet wigs, reflecting sunglasses, and even a couple of dedicated fans in spacesuits. It was evident that these attendees had traveled long distances, to see this international sensation of a band that travelled 4,000 miles for attendees to witness them live.
Electric Callboy's entrance on stage was every bit as electric as their name suggests. With a power-packed beginning of "Tekkno Train," the room lit up, quite literally. As the beat dropped, the songs title flashed vibrantly across the screen and confetti cannons exploded. It was impossible not to get swept up in the fervor as a moshpit erupted and fans threw themselves into the ecstatic frenzy.
The show seemed to end in the traditional manner – with a last song followed by the band's departure, only to return for the anticipated encore. However, this night was destined to stand out. After the encore, the crowd remained rooted as the band made their exit. A unanimous, impassioned chant started to build up, reverberating through the Fillmore, echoing the beat of "We got the moves."
I was conveniently positioned next to the rail at the sound pit. Consequently, I overheard a hurried exchange over the communication speaker. Straining to hear over the crowd I caught something close to "we have that song in the deck do you mind if we play it for them?" I then watched as the sound guy looked around the room and replied back with "Ya, I guess." Ultimately, in a rare gesture to their fans' relentless demand, Electric Callboy responded by returning for a surprise second encore, belting out "We got the moves."
The energy, passion, and sheer exhilaration of the night seemed to follow us as we caught a Lyft and retreated to our Airbnb. Hungry but content, we ordered food via DoorDash and gathered around, re-living the magic of a truly unforgettable concert experience.
In the realm of live music performances, nights like these are what fans live for. The connection, the mutual admiration between the artist and the crowd, and the unexpected moments that become cherished memories. Electric Callboy, along with their commendable openers, made this night at the Fillmore an epic chapter in our concert-going chronicles.
